Nokia 8 Release Date Nokia 9 Upcoming New Phones

Now, a fresh leak hints that the Nokia 8, which has been leaked multiple times over the past few weeks, will be launched as soon as July 31. Along with this, the Nokia 8 price, colour options, and some specification details have also been leaked, giving us comprehensive details about the upcoming flagship. With this launch, the HMD Global-owned brand will be able to compete better with the likes of Apple and Samsung, though the competition will only get tougher as Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and iPhone 8 hit the market in the next few months.

Nokia 8 Release Date Nokia 9 Upcoming New Phones

Nokai 8 HMD Global, the Finnish company that official Nokia licensed the rights to produce Nokia phones, revealed its Zeiss partnership earlier this month. HMD is now bringing back the Zeiss branding on Nokia-branded phones, and it appears the first one will emerge later this month. Venture Beat and WinFuture both report that HMD will launch a Nokia 8 handset on July 31st, with dual-cameras. Both cameras are said to be 13 megapixels and include Carl Zeiss optics.

While this Nokia 8 will include Carl Zeiss optics, it won’t have the same type of camera system that was made by the engineers of Nokia’s PureView. Apple hired Nokia’s Lumia photography expert, and the majority of the talent behind Nokia’s camera work left the company when Microsoft acquired Nokia’s phone business.

Nokia 8 Price

The latest information, and claims that the the Nokia 8 will launch in July also claims it will cost €589. In the UK that translates to around £517, so we'll probably see a price tag of around £519.99. Nokia 8 will be priced at EUR 589 (roughly Rs. 43,400). This is still not as expensive as the Apple and Samsung flagships, but does fall comfortably in the premium price bracket. It is also lower than the earlier tipped price of EUR 749 (roughly Rs. 55,300), while the India price was tipped to be at Rs. 44,999. Also, the report claims that the smartphone will be launched this month itself – on July 31. That’s just two weeks from now, and if this information is true, all information about pricing, specs, and availability in different regions will be out soon.

Nokia 8 Specifications
Nokia 8 Release Date Nokia 9 Upcoming New Phones

The Nokia 8 is also expected to feature a 5.3-inch display (2560 x 1440), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB or 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and dual-SIM models. Venture Beat has supplied a leaked photo of the Nokia 8 in a blue variant, but the phone is also expected to debut in silver and gold versions.

This appears to be HMD’s high-end Nokia-branded device, and will likely ship with a pure version of Android 7.1.1 Nougat. It seems that HMD is sticking with physical keys and larger display bezels for its Nokia-branded flagship device. That could make the Nokia 8 a hard sell against the Samsung Galaxy S8 and other similar Android-powered handsets, but pricing could make up for the design elements.

The report states that Nokia 8 will launch with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage initially, though the rumoured 6GB RAM and 8GB RAM variant may see the light of the day a little bit later. Lastly, at launch, the Nokia 8 will be available in four colour options - Blue, Steel, Gold/Blue, and Gold/Copper. These colour options might be named a bit more creatively on launch day.

Past leaks suggest that the Nokia 8 will sport a bezel-less design, a USB Type-C port and dual speakers at the bottom edge of the smartphone. At the back, it will sport a thin vertical camera strip, or a dual camera setup. The smartphone is also tipped to sport an iris scanner, be IP68 water resistant, support dual-SIM slots, and a fingerprint scanner as well.

The smartphone is expected to feature a 5.3-inch QHD display, will be powered by the Snapdragon 835 SoC, will sport a 13-megapixel dual camera setup at the back and a 13-megapixel front camera as well. The dimensions are expected to be at 151.55x73.7mm.

iOS 11 Problems

However, Morgan Stanley’s Katy Huberty has a more optimistic prediction for Apple. Even though an iPhone 8 delay is likely, Huberty believes (via Business Insider) that this will just push the pent-up consumer demand into the first two quarters of 2018. She also believes the new upgrades and features of the iPhone 8 will be a big del new iPhone upgrade program.

iPhone 8 Delay

Release date iPhone 8 delayed Huberty wrote:
“In light of the most meaningful feature and technology upgrades in iPhone’s history including OLED displays, wireless charging, and 3D sensors for AR. We believe it’s reasonable to assume the new, higher-priced OLED iPhone ships in October rather than September".

Huberty does note that the potential super cycle will hinge on the “desirability” of the iPhone 8. Morgan Stanley currently rates AAPL stock a “buy” and raised its price target slightly from $177 to $182. Whether you use iTunes or update wirelessly, you'll have the same amount of free space on your device after you update.  iPhone 8 is Apple most important smartphone in years. It will deliver the most radical redesign and highest price of any iPhone in history, but with the launch looming so too are the problems. For all of our iPhone 8 coverage, check out our iPhone 8 guide.

Last night it was revealed Apple is struggling to get wireless charging working on the iPhone 8. A tentpole feature, it will bring the iPhone range in line with rivals and is the number one reason Apple has switched the entire chassis from aluminium to more fragile glass. Without wireless charging the move would look ridiculous.

iPhone 8 Problems
iOS 11 Problems iPhone 8 Release Delayed

The consistently reliable site reports further iPhone 8 problems exist with the integration of Touch ID into the display, the supply of OLED for the display itself and operation of the new front facing “3D sensor” camera - which will bring unlocking via facial recognition.

In fact these problems are reported to be so severe that several of the functions will not be available when the phone launches, forcing Apple to enable them later via a software update (John Gruber seconds this). A similar route was taken with Portrait Mode on the iPhone 7 Plus, but these faults would be a far bigger deal. But this is only the start. Riffing further on Apple’s pain today is Fast Company which says there is “a sense of panic” at Apple right now.

iPhone 8 Case

Multiple iPhone 8 case ranges are now on sale confirming its design, but will all the features be ready at launch? Software iPhone 8 integration is the key issue behind both the wireless charging and 3D sensor problems. Given the latter is expected to be a fallback if Touch ID cannot be not integrated into the display, this would leave Apple between a rock and a hard place.

As for OLED, supply problems have forced Apple to invest heavily in Samsung - its number one rival (propelling it to record profits) and “Apple is still finalizing plans on the location of Touch ID, after months of trying different solutions, including embedding the sensor below the OLED display.”

The good news does still expect Touch ID to make it into the iPhone 8. In my opinion a simple solution would be to fit it into the mysteriously enlarged power button as Sony has been doing for years. Apple also has a patent for that. Leaked iPhone 8 front and rear glass panels earlier this month, the change is specifically for wireless charging

The iPhone 8 front and rear glass panels earlier this month, the change is specifically for wireless charging

“By all accounts, it’s late in the game for Apple to be wrestling with problems as big as those described above,” concludes Fast Company and that’s certainly true. With mass manufacturing usually starting three months prior to release (and a September unveiling locked in stone) solutions are needed, and quickly.

Making all these issues even more pressing is the fact the iPhone 8 will be Apple’s 10th anniversary model, the first redesign since the iPhone 6 in 2014 and sport a gargantuan $1,200+ price tag. This is one iPhone Apple simply cannot afford to mess up…

  • Other: Settings, Siri voices, system data, and cached files

Apple still has 3 months before the final iOS 11 release this fall. I hope they take this time to iterate on the new features, adding polish and fixes wherever necessary.

1. Control Center Design

The new Control Center in iOS 11 is a welcome change. A return to one page should help curb confusion. Apple is even letting users add extra controls. But right now, Control Center has some major design issues.

To start out, Control Center doesn’t look as polished as it did in iOS 10. That is fine. It’s actually refreshing to see Apple prioritize function over form. But there are readability and iconography problems. For example, the user needs to 3D Touch the Now Playing tile to bring up the option to change audio outputs. And even then, its hard to read the text. The icons for some controls, especially accessibility ones aren’t obvious. Apple needs to tweak them before release so users aren’t confused.

2. 3D Touch App Switcher

Right now, the 3D Touch App Switcher gesture isn’t available in iOS 11. You can no longer 3D Touch the left edge of the screen to bring up App Switcher or to go to the most recent app. While this might not be used by everyone, it is a useful feature, especially on the Plus models. We hope Apple brings it back before the fall release.

3. OS Wide Drag and Drop on iPhone

Drag and Drop is one of the biggest features in iOS 11. It’s going to change how we work on the iPad. While Apple hasn’t publicized it, drag and drop does work inside apps like Files on the iPhone. Developers have found the code that enables it on the iPhone. All I hope is that Apple can figure out how to make it run well on the iPhone before the iOS 11 release and it’s not pushed to iOS 12 after iOS 11 Drag and Drop iPhone

An inter-app drag and drop feature on the iPhone would be really helpful. And it would negate the need for share extensions. Just select stuff from one app, hold it with one finger, use another hand to open a different app, release the finger to drop the files. It’s natural and intuitive.

4. Unified Notification Center Mess

Here in mypages.tech what they’ve done. In iOS 11, both the Lock screen and Notification Center are the same thing. When you swipe down the Notification Center, you’re essentially bringing down the Lock Screen on top of whatever you’re doing. Right now, it even has the “Press Home to Unlock” text in the bottom. You can even swipe left to open the Camera.

The Unified Notifications part is more confusing. Apple will show the current notifications when you swipe down. But if the notifications are older, say from the day before, you now need to swipe up once again, on both the Lock screen and the Notification Center, to view them. Plus, you can no longer swipe left on the notifications to reveal contextual buttons. You have to 3D Touch or long press on a notification. Maybe this is something we’ll get used to. Maybe not. I hope Apple takes some time to polish the UI for this new feature, at least making it more obvious how to view the earlier notifications.

5. UI Inconsistencies

As this is the first beta, there are small UI problems across the OS. The main being in the apps that have been redesigned. Podcasts app has a lot of alignment issues And in the new design language, Apple has added huge headers for app sections that don’t really belong there. Messages header in Messages app is the biggest culprit. The text itself takes up a lot of space, plus there’s wasted space around the text. Apple should iterate on this design to use less space and to make things tighter in general.

  6. If the device receives an unstable power supply while charging, the touchscreen may not function. If this happens, unplug the charger from the device.
  7. While charging, the device and the charger may heat up. This is normal and should not affect the device’s lifespan or performance. If the battery gets hotter than usual, the charger may stop charging.
  8. If you charge the device while the multipurpose jack is wet, the device may be damaged. Thoroughly dry the multipurpose jack before charging the device.
